My way of passing PMP in 100 days

  • I would suggest people having some work experience should plan to get this certification. Fresher should wait until they gain some sort of industry experience.
  • Start your course with classroom training/online training whichever is convenient for you (I attended classroom training) to earn 35 PDUs which are mandatory to appear for this certification. There are 4 sessions usually on weekends. If you take online course it will be for 3-6 months anytime you can attend the recorded sessions.
  • Once you complete the classroom training, get your PMBOK (now I would suggest going for version 6. Version 5 is applicable only till Jan 2018). You can purchase PMBOK from different online sites or from PMI site. PMI members can download softcopy of this book free of cost.
  • Start reading PMBOK from start. Spend at least 2-3 hrs. Daily to read this book. Understand the concepts. Don’t bi-heart it. Finish 1st reading of this book first before starting anything.  Don’t hurry take your time to read this book properly. Approximately you will need 20-30 days to read it for the first time. (considering you are working professional and you get less time in your routine schedule)
  • Then start reading Rita Mulcahy book (PMBOK v5 = Rita v8) it has good elaboration of concepts in detail. Also it has good exercises on each chapter which will help gaining confidence and also to know your level of preparation. Give around 30-35 days to read this book. Solve all exercises.
  • Give 2 mock tests at start to know your readiness. If you get good score in these 2 exams then I feel you should go ahead and give few more mock tests. If you get satisfactory score in those as well then you are well prepared for exam so go ahead and give a chance for PMP. Satisfactory score will be always above 70-80%. Don’t go by % of overall exam but check whether you have cleared all sections (5 sections). I gave 2 mock tests but didn’t get satisfactory score hence I proceeded to read low scored areas from PMBOK. Once you read those sections try to give another 2-3 mock tests. Check your readiness. Luckily I got good score in these exams. EPMC classroom/online training has 5 mock tests included.(10-15 days)
  • Once you are confident of appearing for PMP, fill the application and take a date for the exam. This will take couple of days as application will be reviewed and then you will be allowed to take exam date. Take exam date a month after.(5 days)
  • Then I read The_PMP_Exam_by_Andy_Crowe_5th_Edition. It has same concepts but explained in simpler way with some good exercises on each chapter. (10 days)
  • Then again I gave few mock tests. There are many free online mock tests available. (links are provided at the end of this blog. There can be many more links. I have provided the links which I referred). I suggest give as many mock tests as possible. It will help to boost your confidence and tell your readiness for exam. I took 5 paid mock tests as well from Simplilearn. They are good.(10 days)
  • I went through some material from internet as well. But I would suggest don’t refer too many sources, as they might confuse you. I especially referred ITTO part from different websites.
  • Again I appeared for few mock tests. Always keep in mind whenever you finish mock test please make sure to go through each wrong question and its correct answer and explanation.
  • Read PMBOK for last time before appearing for exam. It will revise your concepts.
  • Before 2 days of exam don’t read anything. Just relax.
  • Good luck for your exam!!!
